A Quick and Easy Lasagna Recipe

Most families are always hurrying from place to place. You may find yourself rushing home from work to your children who must get to sports practice or dance lessons, limiting the amount of time you can spend preparing dinner. Instead of feeding your family fast food, a family meal gives everyone the opportunity to spend some time together at the table discussing the day's events.

A delicious recipe everyone will love is lasagna. This dish has been traced back to the ancient Greek culture. The name comes from the word "laganon," which means a flat sheet of pasta cut in strips. Years later, a recipe resurfaced in Italy that became the traditional way to construct the dish with layers of meat, cheese, pasta and sauce.

Making a large pan of lasagna allows for leftovers. A single dish provides food for more than one meal of the week and still tastes as good reheated. Since it can be prepared ahead and frozen, the pan can be popped into the oven anytime you're in need of a quick meal option.

This easy lasagna recipe will become a family favorite. Although it requires little time in the kitchen, you will not sacrifice flavor. It will taste like you spent hours preparing a classic comfort dish.

Prep time:
Cook time:
Serves: 8

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef
4 cups tomato sauce
6 uncooked lasagna noodles
15 oz. ricotta cheese
2 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup hot water

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Prepare beef by cooking it in a large skillet over medium heat. Keep stirring the beef until it crumbles and loses all pink color. When fully cooked, remove the pan from the stove and drain away the excess fat. Place the pan back on the burner and add the tomato sauce.

Begin assembling the lasagna in a greased 11 X 7 inch baking dish. Spread one-third of the meat sauce in the dish. Layer three noodles on the bottom and top them with half of the mozzarella and ricotta cheeses. Keep the ricotta layer thin.

Repeat by layering the noodles, sauce, and cheeses again. On the top, spread the remaining meat sauce. Slowly pour the hot water around the inside edges of the dish. Cover the dish with two layers of aluminum foil.

Place the lasagna pan in the oven for 45 minutes. When finished, uncover and bake another 10 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and let it stand for an additional 10 minutes before cutting.

To reheat leftovers, recover the dish with foil. Heat oven to 350 degrees and cook lasagna for 20 to 30 minutes.

This easy lasagna recipe will quickly become your family's go-to dish when time is of the essence but everyone is craving a homemade meal.
